Police Kill Edo Kidnapper, Rescue Abducted Woman
The Edo State Police Command on Tuesday said it rescued a kidnapped woman and killed a suspect in Uzala forest in Egba community in the Benin region of the state.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Jennifer Iwegbu said in a statement on Tuesday that the rescue operation was successful thanks to vital information provided to police by the victim’s husband, Aisosa Moses.
She said, “The Edo State Police Command, in its continued fight against heinous crimes, especially kidnappings, on August 22, 2022, rescued a kidnapped victim.
“This feat was achieved following a complaint by a Mr. Aisosa Moses from Ayaen Community, Edo State. He said that on returning home with his wife and his daughter, two thugs suspected of being kidnappers ambushed them at the entrance to their house and took his wife into the bush.
“The command agents immediately mobilized and embarked on an intensive combing of the bush in view of a possible arrest of the kidnappers and a rescue operation.
“The officers followed the kidnappers to their hideout in Uzala Forest where the suspects, on seeing the team of officers, attempted to escape through the bush, but the combat-ready and vigilant officers incapacitated one while the other escaped with gunshot wounds, leaving the victim who was rescued unharmed.
Iwegbu said State Police Commissioner Abutu Yaro urged residents to go about their daily business and called on them to continue working with the command to rid the criminals and their cohorts in the state.
