Nasarawa: Police officer investigates who ‘impregnated’ teenage niece

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it had opened an investigation into the case of an alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl by her uncle, who is a police inspector.

The State President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Ms. Rabiatu Addra, had alleged that the officer attached to the State Intelligence Office of the Police Command had repeatedly raped the victim, who is her niece.

In a statement on Friday, Nasarawa Command Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel said the command received a complaint about the matter on July 18, 2022 and followed up on it to ensure that justice was served.

According to him, the complaint received was that the inspector used to have illegal sexual relations with his 15-year-old niece who lives with him and his family.

The statement reads: “Upon receipt of the complaints, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adesina Soyemi, ordered the arrest of the suspect.

“CP also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, to conduct a diligent investigation into the matter.”

“Experts were also brought in and obtained DNA samples to further prove the perpetrator,” he said.

DSP Nansel said the DNA test result is still awaited, urging people not to anticipate the result.

He added: “The Nigerian Police is a disciplined organization and will not condone or cover up any act that is against the law and that would discredit the force.

“The public is hereby assured of a thorough investigation into the matter, as the result of the investigation will be made public, and anyone found at fault will be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the law.”
