Police confirm murder of sex worker in Sokoto

Nigerian police have confirmed the murder of a sex worker in Kwanawa, a suburb of Sokoto Metropolis in the Dange/Shuni Local Government Area of ​​Sokoto State.

Sources in the area known for all sorts of illicit activity told our correspondent that the victim was residing in one of the brothels in the area where the alleged killer slit his throat with a knife.

The source said it was the alarm raised by neighbors around the hotel and bystanders that caught the attention of those who apprehended the suspect as he attempted to flee after discovering that the victim was dead.

But State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Sanusi Abubakar while confirming the incident to our correspondent said the suspect claimed to be a researcher who had traveled to Sokoto State to carry out researches.

Abubakar said the suspect decided to spend the night with the victim’s brother, but the trouble started when the suspect paid the victim 1,000 Naira.

He said the victim rejected the money, which led to a fight between them.

The PPRO noted that the suspect stated that the victim allegedly pulled out a knife which he (the suspect) used to stab her after subduing her.

Abubakar, however, said the case was transferred to the command’s homicide section for proper investigation.
