Indian Railways launches special train between Jhansi and Kolkata to honor 1857 freedom struggle

Kolkata: Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is celebrated with the inauguration of special trains by Indian Railways. The struggle for freedom is at the center of these unique trains. Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express, one of these unique trains, is dedicated to the freedom struggle of 1857.
Between Kolkata Station and Virangana Lakshmibai Station, this special train runs. Jhansi Railway Station releases 22198 Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express on Friday, which arrives in Kolkata on Saturday. Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express departs from Kolkata and arrives at Jhansi Station on Monday.

According to North Central Railway Public Relations Officer Shivam Sharma, many trains are operated in remembrance of the Indian freedom struggle during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

He said Indian Railways launched the Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express to honor the 1857 launch of the first effective liberation movement. This railway passes through places like Orai, Kalpi, Prayagraj, Buxar and Patna among others. The railways also tweeted about this train from their main account.

Since then Jhansi has been the cradle of freedom struggle. Kalpi and Orai were where Rani Lakshmibai had resided. Therefore, every historic city with special significance in the liberation movement is traversed by the Pratham Swatantrata Sangram Express.

On March 12, 2021, the Government of India marked and commemorated 75 years of independence by launching Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The campaign, which will culminate on August 15, 2023, is a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence.
