Annual Texas Backpacks for Hope Campaign Will Support Kids in Shelters Before School Year Begins – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The Texas Advocacy Project (TAP) will kick off its 11th annual Backpacks for Hope campaign on Tuesday, providing school supplies to children of victims of domestic violence.

TAP will collect new backpacks containing new school supplies to distribute to the children of domestic violence survivors who have been displaced from their homes.

In addition to school supplies, the backpacks come with a discreet label that lists TAP’s toll-free legal line (800-374-HOPE), information on how to access TAP’s free legal and social services, and security planning information.

Last year, TAP distributed over 1,600 backpacks. This year, they anticipate about 2,000 requests from shelters for backpacks. In order to achieve this goal, they turn to the community for help.

Start a campaign, donate backpacks and supplies, or earn an “A+” by creating a full overview of Backpack for Hope and selecting items from Amazon’s Wish List to make shopping easier.

Donations of backpacks and supplies are accepted from June 21 to July 22. Drop off locations, supply wishlists, and a link to make a monetary donation can all be found here.

There will be a collection site stationed at each of Dallas College’s seven campus pantries as well as several locations across North Texas.
