Police Agents from Anambra State rescued 35 teenage girls trapped in a ring of forced prostitution and baby factory at a hotel in Umusiome, Nkpor in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Seven other female accomplices were also arrested in the raid, including a 35-year-old lady who serves as their madam and assistant manager, and two security guards with three shotguns.
Parading the suspects and victims at the Zone Command Headquarters, Onitsha, yesterday, State Police Public Relations Officer Ikenga Tochi said the police, led by the Zone Commander of Onitsha, John Obuagbaka, following an intelligence gathering on June 13, 2022, stormed the premises of Gally Gally Hotel, Umusiome Nkpor, where several young girls, aged between 14 and 17, were used as sex toys by hotel management who collected money on their behalf and allowed men to sleep with them for a fee.
He said a preliminary investigation revealed that most of the underage girls, brought from different parts of the country, had been lured into hotel prostitution on the pretext that they were employed as hotel sales assistants and waitresses. He revealed that four of the girls were already pregnant at the time of the raid, while others who got pregnant before could not account for their babies.
He said the police had involved the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), to whom the underage girls would be handed over for further action and rehabilitation.
Describing the scene at the hotel as a coordinated crime, the PPRO said some of the mature women arrested included those responsible for receiving the girls in the brothel, collecting money from them after serving their customers. men and, also, together with the self-defense officers working there to prevent the ladies from escaping from the establishment.
