Election 2022 LIVE: Amit Shah will participate today in Jan Vishvas Yatra of UP BJP
The stage is set for assembly elections in five states – Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab. While the first four are led by the Bharatiya Janata party, the last has a congressional government. Although dates have yet to be announced, all political parties have started to strengthen in the states linked to the elections. Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state and one of the most politically significant states, is already witnessing marathon rallies of senior politicians from ruling and opposition parties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Varanasi, also his parliamentary seat, to inaugurate the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, setting the tone for the elections. On the Congress side, its leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is spearheading the campaign. She is addressing rallies statewide, vowing to bring about a change if her party forms the next government. Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi party and the supremo of BSP Mayawati, both former CMs of Uttar Pradesh, spare no effort to win over voters.
