Coats for Colorado campaign is late in mid-term donations
DENVER (KDVR) – The Coats for Colorado campaign is at its midpoint and this year’s number of coats has fallen behind last year’s donations.
Nonprofit groups like Urban Impact depend on the generosity of the Coats for Colorado campaign to keep their clients warm.
Perspective is something James Gutierrez has while helping out at Dependable Cleaners for the Coats for Colorado drive.
âThis is my fifth year with Coats for Colorado with Kasina here at Dependable Cleaners. Every year it has been a blessing, âsaid Gutierrez.
Gutierrez knows what it’s like to live on the outside. A former gang member, he was nearly murdered, fathered a child at 16 and was charged with several crimes.
“The gun charges, the assault charges, the violence, it’s just violence,” Gutierrez said.
âI almost lost my job, my car, my children, my house. I lost almost everything, âGutierrez said of his life in 2016.
James Gutierrez is now a Reverend and runs Urban Impact, helping young people who have followed in his footsteps. The association will receive coats from Dependable Cleaners and Coats for Colorado.
âSome of them don’t have the opportunity or the means to have one or buy one, so having a nice, slightly worn jacket is perfect for them,â said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez thanks God for changing him from the inside and Coats for Colorado for keeping his loads warm from the outside to the inside.
