United Way local plans drive-thru rally to kick off annual campaign | Local News
United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas will kick off their 2021-22 campaign next week with events in Joplin and Pittsburg, Kansas.
A campaign kickoff and drive-through agency rally will take place Tuesday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm in the parking lot of the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. A similar kick-off and rally is scheduled for Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Pittsburg, in the parking lot of the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at Pittsburg State University.
The public can attend either rally, a first for the local Centraide.
“This is an opportunity to bring the community together to support all of the partner agencies we work with to resolve our community’s most critical issues,” said Duane Dreiling, Executive Director, in a statement. “We invite the public to drive to applaud, applaud, honk, thank and show appreciation for the incredible work our partner agencies have done during the pandemic and the vital services they continue to provide to our communities.”
Each year, United Way partners with dozens of regional agencies, including Joplin NALA Read, Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri, Joplin Family Y, Legal Aid of Western Missouri, Pittsburg YMCA, and Catholic Charities of Southeast Kansas.
The theme of the campaign this year is “Drive Change 365”. Dreiling said it symbolizes how United Way affects its communities throughout the year.
“Even after the pandemic, the people of our communities continue to face many unique challenges throughout the year,” he said. “But that’s exactly what United Way was built for: to rally the community around a common goal of caring for our families, friends and neighbors.”
Residents attending the rally will have the opportunity to view the Centraide campaign video, meet staff and learn how to get involved in the campaign.
