Jackson State University recently announced that it will require face masks or blankets in all indoor public spaces on campus for both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, regardless of school or extracurricular activity. JSU based its decision on recent guidelines from the Mississippi State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The fall 2021 JSU classes will still be in-person with a possibly limited number of virtual class options, but JSU has changed all classrooms to accommodate social distancing. The university offers vaccinations to faculty, staff, and students every Tuesday on its main campus in conjunction with the Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center.

JSU has also launched a new residency student vaccination incentive program. Residence students who apply for the incentive program and show proof of vaccination will receive a housing credit of $ 1,000, which JSU will split into two installments of $ 500 for the fall and spring semesters, respectively. The initiative is part of the Federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund grant program.

The next fall seminar for JSU faculty and staff, scheduled for August 11-12, will take place virtually. A virtual town hall for students and parents will take place on August 10 at 6 p.m. and will cover JSU’s fall 2021 COVID-19 plan and address other issues and concerns.
