Campaign, the app helps prevent stillbirth by tracking a baby’s movements
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A stillbirth is a sad reality for many families. There’s a new resource to help prevent another heartache for expectant parents.
Whether someone is a new or an experienced parent, the journey of pregnancy, while exciting, can worry anyone.
Even with proper antenatal care and routine visits, some families are struck by devastating news. A stillbirth is the death or loss of a baby at or after 20 weeks of pregnancy, or during childbirth. It affects about one in 160 births, according to the CDC.
âThe cord could wrap around the child’s neck. There are a lot of things that can happen, you could lose amniotic fluid and when those things happen the baby slows down, âsaid Julia Tayler, Nevada Ambassador forâ Count the Kicks â.
âHappy Birth Day,â a nonprofit organization, helps educate expectant parents about the importance of tracking a baby’s movements, especially during the third trimester of pregnancy.
âCount the Kicksâ is an app for mothers to monitor their bundle of joy and find out what’s normal and notice any changes.
Mariana Falvey, mother of two, says she used the program during her two pregnancies.
âWhen I thought about the app, it gave me the peace of mind that I would keep track of my baby and his life, and that I would and stay active. We had a little scare around the time he had an arrhythmia, âFalvey said.
âIf it took you ten minutes to get ten kicks and all of a sudden it takes an hour or an hour and a half to get the same amount⦠you want to be aware of that. You want your doctor to know about this, ânoted Tayler.
Instead of tracking kicks on a piece of paper, the app makes it convenient, giving individuals the ability to use it at their fingertips.
If there is a change, the doctor should be notified.
“Trust your mom-gut. At the end of the day, it’s fair, âFalvey said. “You think you are crazy and people tell you you are wrong, but if your mom-gut tells you, then listen to it.
âIf you spot a problem early, at this point, you can save your baby’s life. This is what we are looking for is to save the lives of babies, âsaid Tayler.
The app is available in the IOS and Google Play stores.
