In the context of media reports referring to documents obtained by the US State Department alleging that Chinese military scientists investigated the militarization of coronaviruses five years before the Covid-19 pandemic and may have predicted a Third World war fought with biological weapons, Gaurav Sawant of India Today talks to Gaurav Sawant. Chinese virologist Dr Le-Meng Yan on the matter.
What do you think of this report? Is this âsmokingâ proof?
Dr. Yan: Yes, this document is one of the “ smoke guns ” that can prove that China has a long-term non-traditional biological weapons program and [China plans] to use it to conquer the whole world. The document you mentioned, as well as my report released in March, explains how to develop non-traditional biological weapons. Also, the goal is to deny and use the disinformation to deceive the world when people realize it is coming from the lab.
You argued that the virus did not come out of the Wuhan wet market, that it came from a Chinese military lab. Is there any evidence to support this claim?
Dr Yan: I started telling people via YouTube anonymously from last January that this virus came from the PLA lab and that they discovered the coronavirus after a lot of investment. They eventually got a human target virus and it was intentionally released. Moreover, the Chinese government knows this and that is why it immediately received a response after hours of waiting.

You said it was broadcast âintentionallyâ and not âaccidentallyâ. Is this then a biological weapon unleashed, as the report argues, to bring about the collapse of the enemy’s medical system?
Dr. Yan: Yes, the medical system is one of the areas targeted by the use of these unrestricted biological weapons.
So basically, in that report, senior officials said five or six years ago that this biological weapon should not be a high death rate weapon. The secondary use is to damage the enemy’s medical system and also the society. At a community trial in Wuhan last year, Wuhan was in a mess.
Chinese media say that this report contains no facts, that it is too far-fetched.
Dr. Yan: The Chinese government’s response is also coded into the manual, which is a disinformation campaign. The Chinese government in the report clearly writes that to identify whether the virus has nature or not, that is, whether this virus matches the nature of the evolutionary history.
On the other hand, I have provided strong enough scientific evidence as well as intelligence evidence that China cannot deny, but the only thing it can do is spread a disinformation campaign, including asking the NIH , WHO and Nature to reject it.
Chinese scientists and PLA commanders may have talked about the genetic engineering of viruses in 2015. Can this 2015 report be directly related to the spread of the coronavirus in 2020-2021?
Dr. Yan: The report is published by the military medical press and is aimed at military students at universities. The preface to the book clearly mentions, and this should be emphasized, that this is not the start of their study of contemporary bio-weapons. This is only one step in the study of biological weapons of which we now have proof.
But after that they also changed a lot and they recruited a lot of labs under the guise of silo labs, under the guise of international labs, and working with the military to develop it. So they have better knowledge and better experience after five to six years and that’s what allowed Covid-19 to happen.
